NL MVP Favorite: Paul Goldschmidt, St. Louis Cardinals -1400
As of September 6, the Cardinals are way ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers (+8.5 games) for first place in the NL Central. The Cardinals essentially have the division locked up with one month left, and Paul Goldschmidt is a massive reason why.
The former Arizona Diamondbacks slugger is crushing the baseball in all aspects. He leads the MLB in average (.328) and on-base percentage (.416), is third in hits (158), second in RBI (107), OPS (1.029) and slugging percentage (.613), and fourth in home runs (34). Basically, what isn’t Goldschmidt doing?
At this rate, there isn’t even a close second for the NL MVP, and he still has one month remaining to increase these numbers.
AL MVP Odds 2022
AL MVP Favorite: Aaron Judge, New York Yankees (-1000)
Again, this isn’t even remotely close. If the Angels record was better (they are 60-76 on the year), then Ohtani might be more of a consideration, but MVP Awards rarely go to players on losing teams.
Nonetheless, Aaron Judge is dominating the game and is well on his way to an eye-popping contract in free agency this offseason. The former Fresno State star has 54 home runs with 117 RBIs, both of which are well ahead of the MLB lead. He also has a .302 batting average and has the MLB lead in OPS (1.085) and runs (109). Judge is chasing Roger Maris’ Yankees record of 61 home runs, and there’s a decent chance of him reaching that mark before the month of September even ends.

Worth A Shot: Manny Machado, San Diego Padres (+8000)
The San Diego Padres have played the entire season without superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. Yet, they are still right in the middle of a playoff race, and it isn’t just because they acquired Juan Soto at the MLB trade deadline.
Machado has been a monster all year long and has MVP consideration. The former Oriole and Dodger is hitting an even .300 as of September 6 with 26 home runs and 88 RBIs with 85 runs scored while playing in 126 games. In 2021, Machado had 28 home runs with 106 RBIs, so there’s a good chance he surpasses both numbers by season’s end.
He is in line for his best season since joining San Diego, and what makes it even more impressive is he has done all of this without Tatis and with a ton of injuries plaguing San Diego all year long. Early in the season, he was the frontrunner, but things changed quickly as Paul Goldschmidt caught fire and the Padres went through a tough few months.
