UFC 270 Prediction for Moreno vs Figueiredo
As this trilogy approaches, we look back at what brought us here. At UFC 256 Figueiredo defended his flyweight title against Moreno. The fight went five rounds and was a fight of the year contender, with it ending in a majority draw. Fast forward to June 2021 and the rematch had high expectations. Many were expecting Figueiredo to KO Moreno but that wasn’t the case. Instead, Moreno submitted Figueiredo in the third round, thus becoming the first Mexican-born UFC champion.
“The Assassin Baby” has improved leaps and bounds since his first UFC run. He has never been finished in MMA and has a diverse skillset that outsmarted Figgy in their rematch. In terms of striking defense which will be vital for the trilogy, Moreno has 58% and Figueiredo 49%. This was Figueiredo’s downfall in both fights, leaving his guard open and inviting Moreno in so he can aim to land a knockout shot.
In terms of a gameplan for UFC 270, Figueiredo aims to neutralize Moreno’s jab. Which was a key factor in keeping the fight within his range. “We are already working out a strategy to neutralize [the jab], but most important is to be aggressive like I was in my first fight,” the Brazilian ex-champ discussed. “Every time Moreno faces aggressive opponents that attack before him as I did in our first fight, and [Alexandre] Pantoja did twice against him, he has problems. This is now Moreno’s era and this fight is next step for him cementing his legacy in the UFC.
