Latest Heisman Trophy Best Bets & Picks for 2022

Jaxon Smith-Njigba

The college football season has arrived. Finally. There are a ton of changes from the last college football game we saw back in January, and the NIL, transfer portal, and unreal coaching carousel have shifted the landscape upside down in just a few months.

As the season kicks off, it’s time to examine the Heisman Trophy favorites and check out the Heisman Trophy betting odds. Among the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy is Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, who just won the award in 2021. So, his Heisman betting odds are about what you’d expect.

Heisman finalist and Ohio State QB CJ Stroud also has favorable odds to win the award, which again isn’t a surprise. However, let’s dive in and examine the five best bets to make for the Heisman Trophy, and some of these Heisman betting odds might surprise you.

Heisman Trophy Best Bets

Ohio State QB, CJ Stroud: +200

The Buckeyes signal-caller is the favorite to win the award. He finished fourth last season, but both Aidan Hutcinson and Kenny Pickett have moved on to the NFL. Plus, with another season under his belt, we can expect to see monumental growth from Stroud as he connects with Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who lit up Utah in the Rose Bowl.

Alabama QB, Bryce Young: +350

It might be surprising to see Young, the Heisman Trophy winner last season, behind Stroud in the initial betting odds. However, remember this: It is extremely difficult to win the Heisman two years in a row.

Ohio State running back Archie Griffin  is the ONLY player to win the award twice, and he did it in back-to-back years. Young could do it, sure, but the odds are against him considerably.

Long Shot Pick: Texas QB, Quinn Ewers: +3500

Quinn Ewers left Ohio State and came back to Texas. Now, Steve Sarkisian pegged him as the starting quarterback. Furthermore, Archie Manning is coming into town next season, so Ewers needs to prove that he can be the Longhorns starting QB going forward.

Ewers Heisman betting odds are at +3500, which seems like a steal right now. If he can piece it together and shock the world, Ewers could end up in New York right in the thick of the conversation. Want to hear the best part?

A $100 bet will earn you a total payout of $3,600. It’s worth a shot, honestly.

Alabama LB, Will Anderson Jr: +2200

Will Anderson Jr. took college football by storm last year. he was everywhere for the Crimson Tide, finishing the season with 91 tackles and 15 sacks. Anderson surprisingly got snubbed during the 2021 Heisman Trophy voting, where he finished fifth.

Anderson likely would’ve been the top pick in the 2022 NFL Draft if he was eligible, and another strong year should send him into the top pick conversation for the 2023 NFL Draft.

With Anderson’s Heisman betting odds at +2200, you can cash out pretty nicely by taking a gamble on this Alabama defensive superstar.

USC QB, Caleb Williams: +700

We already discussed why the USC Trojans are a terrific bet for their Week 1 matchup against the Rice Owls, and Caleb Williams is a huge reason why.

The former Oklahoma Sooners QB came over with Lincoln Riley, and suddenly the four-win Trojans have a superstar roster. Pitt WR Jordan Addison is in town, along with a flurry of other talented players and a brand new coaching staff.

If Williams and the Trojans live up to the hype, he will be flying to New York for the Heisman ceremony. His Heisman betting odds aren’t as big as Anderson or Ewers, but he might be the safest “longshot-type” pick at +700.

Heisman Longshots & Honorable Mentions

Texas RB, Bijan Robinson: +2200
Ohio State WR, Jaxon Smith-Njigba: +2200

it is difficult for skill players to win the Heisman, but if there are options this season, both players are right in the discussion. The biggest problem is this: Smith-Njigba has Stroud ahead of him, and Robinson has Ewers on his team.
