Golovkin vs Murata Prediction
Golovkin, has successfully held a world title every since 2020. Is looking to extend his legacy which spans two timelines as he is in the midst of his second reign.
Golovkin won the IBF Middleweight Title in 2019 following a unanimous decision victory over highly-rated opponent Sergiy Derevyanchenko, a four-time title contender. It was a ferocious fight to the bitter end that wowed fans at Madison Square Garden for a full twelve rounds.
Murata, a top-five ranked middleweight, will be returning to action after a long layoff. His last UFC match was in December 2019, a fifth-round TKO of Steven Butler. Yet, despite his status as middleweight champion, Murata is stepping up to the elite level for the first time in his career. The 36-year-old defied his professional losses via knockout after losing by decision to Hassan N’Dam and Rob Brant.
GGG and Murata boast a combined record of 57-3-1, 49 KOs – a winning percentage of over 93% – with 86% of their victories coming by way of knockout. “It did take place but that was a long time ago,” Golovkin said of the sparring session with Murata. “It was not the pure sparring approach that he came to spar me. I learned during those sessions that Murata is a very serious fighter with a high boxing IQ.”
Murata’s last eight victories have come by way of stoppage. That being said, I can’t see Murata stopping Golovkin. I expect GGG to march Murata down and aim to score a late finish, but realistically it will most likely go to the judge’s scorecards with GGG getting his hand raised and setting up the ultimate boxing trilogy against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Betting Pick: GGG by Decision.
Stage Set for GGG vs Canelo 3
Golovkin’s eyes need to be on the prize here, and not let the distraction of a third Canelo fight be in his mind. Golovkin and Alvarez win their upcoming fights and emerge uninjured, boxing’s biggest fight can be made.
When they came head to head in 2017, Golovkin edged to a controversial draw. A year later, he lost a narrow defeat to the Mexican boxer. Now the stage is almost set for GGG vs Canelo 3. Canelo is set to face Dmitry Bivol next, with opening Canelo vs Bivol odds showing us Bivol should give Canelo his biggest test since the Golovkin fights.
