For Teofimo Lopez’s return on Aug. 13, the former four-division lightweight champion opens as a solid 96% betting favorite. Lopez is a lock to win this fight, even though he lost his last fight against George Kambosos as a -800 favorite. Lopez vs Campa Prediction
Teofimio’s first boxing loss to George Kambosos was a tough pill to swallow for Jr. and his father. All four belts were lost on the night, in a performance that saw Lopez get dominated from start to finish. It was apparent that Lopez’s newly found fame had gone to his head with a clear lack of preparation and underestimation of “Ferocious The Emperor”.
Every boxing fan knows Lopez has still got what it takes to fight against the best, mentally this will be a bigger challenger for Lopez to get excited about after coming off wins over Masayoshi Nakatani, Richard Commey, and Vasiliy Lomachenko and failing against Kambosos to then take on Pedro Campa.
Some background on Pedro Campa who is fighting out of Hermosillo, Mexico. The seasoned pro made his professional debut on May 14, 2011, against Jorge Vilches. Campa has fought 36 times, amassing a record of 34 wins, one loss, and one draw. Campa’s only loss was in his fight with Carlos Jimenez.
Campa is no slouch but was recently declined by the NASC to fight Jose Zepeda, due to it being such a mismatch. The fact that Campa is 36 fights into his career and hasn’t fought outside of Mexico, signals that TopRank is arranging this as a tune-up fight for Lopez.
I see Lopez’s returning with a more calculated approach just like when he fought Lomachenko. A feeling-out process will be natural here and as the rounds build up, expect Lopez to get in his rhythm and look comfortable against Campa in a fight I see him scoring a finish in the mid to later rounds.
Regardless of the matchmaking Lopez makes for must-watch boxing and betting on him to win by KO will offer up real betting value on August 13.
Betting Pick: Lopez by KO.
Lopez Returns to TopRank
Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, welcomes Lopez back to TopRank Boxing and had this to say about the fight: “Teofimo Lopez has a clean bill of health and is ready to make noise at 140 pounds. It all starts with a difficult test in Pedro Campa,” “Xander Zayas is a special young talent, and I expect him to put on another sensational performance. Top Rank looks forward to another fantastic night of boxing at Resorts World Las Vegas.”
Lopez clears the air and honestly address his past and steps moving forward at 140-pounds. “I’m thankful to be back on August 13. I’ve been looking forward to this since my last fight,” Lopez said. “I’ve had a lot of complications, but we’re looking towards the future and are on to bigger and better things. I’m here to take over the 140-pound division just like I did at 135. Like always, I’m going to bring excitement to the sport of boxing. The Takeover is still in full effect. You don’t want to miss it.”
Lopez-Campa and Zayas-Espadas will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
