Fight Prediction for Garcia vs Campbell
This is a classic youth vs experience bout in boxings lightweight division. Ryan Garcia is 22 with an undefeated record of 20-0. Luke Campbell is 33 years of age and is a former Olympic gold medalist. He has a record of 20-3. While they both have the same amount of wins, Campbell’s loses come at the hands of boxing’s elite such as Vasyl Lomachenko and Jorge Linares.
I expect Ryan Garcia to be on the offence from the opening bell. He will try and close the distance between Campbell and score some early heavy shots. What Campbell needs to do, is make Garcia respect his craft. This can be done by frustrating Garcia by making him miss and counter striking.
Campbell is southpaw and will need to pop the right jab accurately and powerful enough to keep Garcia at bay. Both boxers are pretty much evenly matched in terms of height and reach. Luke Campbell will be the biggest man that Garcia has stepped into the ring with, the majority of Garcia’s past opponents are much smaller than him.
For Garcia this will be his biggest test to date. Especially if he fight goes into the later rounds. That is the biggest question mark around the WBC Silver lightweight champion. In Garcia’s past four fights, only one has went past the second round and that was against Braulio Rodriguez, which Garcia still won by KO.
Garcia has slick combinations and serious power for his weight-class. My main concern would be his defence, against a world class boxer like Luke Campbell.
Overall this is a tough fight to predict, but that’s what makes it even more exciting. I can see a case for Campbell or Garcia winning, which makes the odds for Campbell at +300, even more enticing. In the end it will come down to Luke Campbell having limited success on the inside and getting clipped by Garcia. With the youth of Garcia using his hand speed to have the slight edge over Campbell.
Pick: Ryan Garcia
