(With that said, I do believe that waiting for him to post an opening-round score of, let’s say, 1-over 72, which places him five strokes off the lead, and then grabbing him at +1150 as a live betting option might be the wisest course of action if you genuinely seek an outright ticket.)

Smith could be my top pick for the 2023 Open Championship – if I’m not restricted by an OAD rule against defending champions. He has a strong track record at this event and has truly evolved as a player since last year, securing five victories in 2022 alone. His recent win on the LIV Golf circuit adds to his current momentum. It’s hard to find any valid reasons to doubt Smith’s chances this week.
Rickie Fowler (+2200)
I’ve come to realize that the notion of American players excelling on long parkland courses while Europeans thrive on rainy and windy links tracks is not always accurate.

Tommy Fleetwood (+2500)
Tommy is a player who deserves consideration in multiple categories for this preview. Personally, I find the odds of 25/1 to be slightly short for someone who consistently comes close without sealing the deal, but it’s not a bad choice.
I’m particularly drawn to the enticing value of the top-10 props (+230) for Fleetwood. He has impressively cashed in on top-10 finishes in four of his last seven starts, including notable performances of 4th-4th-6th in the Scottish Open and The Open within the past 53 weeks.
Considering his consistency, a top-five play could also be worth exploring, although there will be strong competition from other top-tier players. It’s worth mentioning that Fleetwood has a reputation for getting off to fast starts, so keep an eye on him as a potential first-round leader.

While I anticipate a crowded leaderboard with popular choices, I believe selecting Fleetwood could provide an advantage over others who opt for bigger names such as Rory McIlroy or Scottie Scheffler, allowing for some strategic differentiation.
