- Odds: Canelo Alvarez remains a huge betting favorite -5000 to defeat Avni Yildirim.
- Date & Location: Main Card 7 pm ET on DAZN, Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
- Prediction: Canelo by KO/TKO.
Canelo’s domination of boxing continues with his first of at least three fights in 2021. We break down the bets for Canelo vs Yildirim and see where the betting value is for this weekend’s fight.
Prediction for Canelo vs Yildirim
Canelo Alvarez will defend his titles this Saturday against Avni Yildirim aka “The Turkish Wolf”. At this point Canelo is the biggest star in boxing, he’s the complete package and is now in his prime, with two more huge fights in his sights this year.
Taking a look at the records from off the bat, the opposition Avni Yildirim’s has faced is not even comparable to the depth of Canelo’s record. Chris Eubank Jr TKO’d Yildirim in the 3rd round back in 2017. Yildirim hasn’t fought in over two years come fight night, he lost by a technical head clash against a decent boxer in Anthony Dirrell.
Canelo is one of the most powerful punchers in boxing right now, he’s coming off the absolute schooling of Callum Smith. Essentially this fight is to keep Canelo busy until Cinco De Mayo comes around for another blockbuster fight.
Yildirim’s stamina is fantastic and that should be enough to keep him in the fight until past the opening rounds. Yildirim will have the height advantage but as we’ve seen that doesn’t matter too much against Canelo. Interestingly enough Canelo will actually have a half-inch reach advantage over Yildirim.
I expect some harsh resistance from Yildirim against Canelo. Especially in the early rounds when both boxers are downloading each other data. Yildirim can take some damage and therefore I expect this fight to light up from the sixth round onwards.
Overall Canelo has a clear advantage over Yildirim, in terms of power and speed which will be enough to stop Yildirim in devastating fashion.
Pick: Canelo via TKO/KO.
A straight moneyline bet on Canelo Alvarez defeating Avni Yildirim would take $5000 to win $100. A hefty price to wager to make such minimal gains. That’s why when it comes to betting on favorites in boxing it’s worthwhile looking at the props for bigger profits.
Method of Victory

- Draw +5000
- Avni Yildirim on Points or Decision +5000
- Avni Yildirim KO/TKO +2600
Pick: Canelo Alvarez KO/TKO -750.
Canelo has won by KO 63% of the time. Given how open Avni Yildirim fights, I expect this to be finished before the final round. You can bet $750 on Canelo defeating Yildirim by KO, to win $100.
Group Round Betting
- Canelo Alvarez Round 1-3 +200
- Canelo Alvarez Round 4-6 +200
- Canelo Alvarez Round 7-9 +370
- Avni Yildirim Round 1-3 +7000
- Avni Yildirim Round 4-6 +7000
- Avni Yildirim Round 7-9 +7000
Pick: Canelo Alvarez Round 7-9 +200.
While Canelo has certainly proved himself to be a finisher inside the ring. He fights smart similar to Teofimo Lopez, who likes to see all his opponent’s moves before going for the finish. I can see this fight ending between round 7 to 9, which means you can bet $100 to win $370.
