Shohei Ohtani Prop Bets & Dodgers World Series Odds for 2024

Shohei Ohtani joins the Dodgers, you can place prop bets on his 2024 performances

The Los Angeles Dodgers were already seen as a strong team to possibly win the World Series in 2024 because they had many talented players.

Since Shohei Ohtani signed a huge $700 million deal with the Dodgers, a lot of athletes were amazed. This move has made the Dodgers the team that might lose the World Series next season.

Once Ohtani shared on social media that he was joining the Dodgers, they became the favorites to win the World Series. What are the chances that Ohtani can get MVP without pitching at the Dodgers? We go over some of the best props you can bet on Ohtani as he makes his Dodgers debut in 2024.

I’m considering placing a bet on the Dodgers to win the World Series with odds of +550. This implies a probability of approximately 15.38%. The potential payout for a $10 bet would be $65 if the Dodgers clinch the World Series.

If you are thinking about taking the Over on the Dodgers’ regular-season win total, set at 102.5, with odds of -104. The implied win probability for this bet is around 50.98%. A $10 bet could yield a potential profit of $19.62 if the Dodgers secure more than 102.5 wins in the regular season.

When Ohtani decided to stay in California, the Blue Jays’ chances of winning the World Series dropped by half. It shows how much of an impact having a player like Ohtani, who’s won the American League MVP twice, can have on a team.

The Dodgers haven’t done well in the playoffs since they won in 2020. Los Angeles lost in the National League Division Series for the last two seasons, and this year, they were swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks. They also fell in the NLCS in 2021.

Ohtani is likely to help the Dodgers get to the playoffs again. However, even though he’s great at both pitching and hitting, he hasn’t proven himself in the MLB playoffs. In his six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, he never got the chance to play in the playoffs.

Now, Ohtani is expected to lead the Dodgers to the World Series. This time, though, he’ll have a lot of support from his teammates.

Will Ohtani get MVP without pitching?

Shohei Ohtani is a really different player in the history of Major League Baseball. No one has ever both hit and pitched at such a high level for a long time. Him being able to basically be two players at once gives him an advantage over others. No one else can do what he does when he’s at his best.

However, here’s the catch. He won’t be at his best in the 2024 season. Ohtani had surgery on his throwing arm’s elbow — not Tommy John surgery — and although he should be in the Dodgers’ lineup on Opening Day, he won’t likely pitch until 2025.

Both times Ohtani won the AL MVP were seasons where he did both. In 2021, Ohtani hit .257 with an OPS of .964, 46 home runs, 100 RBI, and 26 stolen bases while going 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 156 strikeouts in 130 1/3 innings. In 2023, he won after hitting .304 with a 1.066 OPS, 44 home runs, 95 RBI, and 20 stolen bases while going 10-5 with a 3.14 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 132 innings.

Ohtani didn’t pitch in 2019 and only had 1 2/3 innings in 2020. He struggled hitting in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, which doesn’t really count because he’s been amazing in the three seasons since. And in 2019, his power wasn’t fully there, hitting only 18 home runs in 425 plate appearances while slashing .286/.343/.505. He didn’t get MVP votes in those seasons.

So, if the Dodgers can expect offensive production similar to the last three seasons — he came second to Aaron Judge in 2022 — will that help him in the NL MVP race? Not really. Ohtani will only be used as a designated hitter, and while he might be the best at that, DHs usually don’t get the MVP. Ohtani was the first DH to win the award, but that was mostly because of his pitching stats, which added more to his game.
