Joe Joyce’s journey to the top of the heavyweight division on July 24th. Joyce will take on veteran boxer Carlos Takam in London. Joyce is coming off a fresh win over Daniel Dubios last November, we review the latest Joyce vs Takam odds below.
Joe Joyce vs Carlos Takam Odds
At 40 years of age, Takam is a big underdog +600 against Joyce. That means a $100 wager could net you $600 on the chance of an upset. Joe Joyce’s implied win probability is 90.91% for defeating Takam. To make any sort of profit betting on Joyce defeating Takam you would need to bet $1000 + just make a $100 profit.
Betting Value for Joyce vs Takam
Takam is a Cameroonian-born French heavyweight that many British fans will be familiar with. He gave Anthony Joshua a great challenge when they fought back in 2017. Then lost to Derek Chisora the following year. Since then he’s gone on a four-fight winning streak – extending his record to 39-5-1.
Takam remains in tremendous shape for his age. He has a muscle-bound body moving with lots of versatility for a heavyweight boxer. Betting on Takam defeating Joyce is a risky one, if the Frenchman has one way of winning this fight it’s by bullying Joyce and scoring a close decision on the judge’s scorecards.
I expect this fight to be competitive with Takam proving he is still a solid litmus test for heavyweight outside of the top five. That all being said, it depends on how Joyce approaches this fight. His last performance against Daniel Dubois proved to be one of his most impressive performances – stopping the former undefeated fighter in the 10th round.
Joyce will have the height and reach advantage and I expect his jab to be the best skill set against Takam. This fight could easily go the distance, but I think if Joyce can maintain his power and lull Takam into a false sense of security, then we could be looking at a stoppage in the later rounds.
Joyce Eyes World Title Shot
As reported on NYFights, promoter Frank Warren said: “It was a great win for Joe against Daniel Dubois. He has been inactive since then because we have been waiting for WBO title situation between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk to be finalized” Warren continued, “had that fight not happened Joe would have been fighting Usyk for the vacant title, so we had to wait and see what the outcome would be. That situation has been sorted. Joe will become the mandatory challenger for the winner and get his world title fight – should he beat Carlos Takam.”
If Joyce can win this fight it seems a future fight with Oleksandr Usyk is inevitable, where the Ukrainian is favored over Joyce in the latest betting odds.
“It is a testament to Joe’s character that he’d take a fight as difficult as this when a World Title fight is waiting round the corner. This is a dangerous, dangerous fight and Joe needs to make sure he doesn’t let Carlos come in and take everything he’s worked so hard for.”
Joyce has his eyes on the winner of Fury vs Wilder 3. Which goes down the night before Joyce-Takam on July 23rd and odds are massively in “The Gypsy Kings” favor.
There is no denying that if Joyce can go out there and pull off a statement win over Takam, he will be in the limelight for a title shot against the elite heavyweights out there.
