- Odds: Edson Barboza (-105) underdog vs Giga Chikadze (-125) favorite.
- Picks: Barboza / Over 2.5 Rounds.
Barboza vs Chikadze will headline a UFC Fight Night on August 28, with a location TBA. Chikadze is ranked #10 with Barboza just one ranking above in #9 spot. This should be a fantastic match-up style wise and some great matchmaking in the featherweight division. We review the latest Barboza vs Chikadze odds with an early fight pick to follow.
Edson Barboza vs Giga Chikadze Odds
Chikadze who is undefeated since entering the UFC, opens as the betting favorite against Barboza. Chikadze is on a six fight winning streak and opened as a -125 betting favorite. (Bet $125, win $100). Barboza is currently 2-1 since moving down to featherweight with a split decision loss to Dan Ige and two wins on the bounce, against Makwan Amirkhani and Shane Burgos. Barboza is a slight underdog and offers real betting value at -105, bet $105, to net $100.
Betting Value on Barboza
When the betting line was released for Barboza vs Chikadze, it was a pick’em. Now Chikadze has the slight edge with some early money going on the Georgian based fighter. Chikadze is a big up and comer in the featherweight division, a win here for him would be a huge lift on a headlining fight night.
Chikadze comes from a kickboxing background with a 38-6 over the course of his 44 kickboxing fights. Since joining the UFC he’s picked up wins over Omar Morales and Cub Swanson. Barboza on the other hand is now a veteran of the sport, he has the advantage with more MMA experience and is looking refreshed since cutting down to 145-pounds. Barboza will have to maintain good defencse for the opening rounds, with Chikadze’s confidence booming after scoring two 1st round finishes in his last fights.
I expect this to be a strictly stand up affair, with Barboza’s karate kickboxing style going up against Chikadze’s kickboxing. This fight will be five-rounds which will give both fighters the time to showcase their skills against each other. In terms of betting on rounds, I don’t expect this fight to be finished within the first 2.5 rounds. Check out the betting props on over 2.5 rounds once they’re released.
