- Betting Pick: Giga Chikadze.
The first UFC event of 2022 is set in stone and it’s expected to be a cracker! Headlined by two featherweight contenders Kattar and Chikadze, it will be a five round main event. FanDuel Sportsbook have released early odds for Calvin Kattar vs Giga Chikadze. This is a risky comeback fight for Kattar, can he prove the oddsmakers wrong and pull off the victory here? Let’s find out.
Kattar vs Chikadze Odds
The betting favorite here Giga Chikadze, the Georgian is on a real hot streak right now. He’s undefeated since returning to the UFC and is on a nine fight winning run. You can find odds for Chikadze over at our list of sports betting sites, where he’s currently a -154 favorite (Bet $154, win $100). Calvin Kattar who’s coming off a year layoff after losing to Max Holloway, has odds of +130 (Bet $100, win $130).
Early Prediction for Kattar vs Chikadze
Calvin Kattar opened up 2021 and now he’ll be opening up 2022. He took some real damage in his only fight in 2021, where he absorbed 447 total strikes from Max “Blessed” Holloway. How will Kattar look against Giga in his return? Only time will tell, but typically these bad beatings can hamper a fighters durability and performance for the remainder of their fighting career.
Prior to that Kattar was verging on a title shot at featherweight. His crisp boxing and large frame has carried him well for the majority of his UFC run. Now Kattar is back to prove a point and he’s straight back in there at the deep end.
Both fighters are 33 years old and are in their prime. With Chikadze being the more improved fighter over the past few years of the two. He’s worked on his takedown defense and now that isn’t a concern he can focus on striking without the worry of been taken down.
Giga Chikadze hasn’t lost in the UFC and has been calling out all the big names at featherweight. Giga has a big kickboxing background and has the skill set to go all the way. The “Ninja” has a two inch reach over Kattar and I see this and playing a part in countering Kattar. Combining that with being one of the best kickers in the UFC, Chikadze will look to chop the lead leg off Kattar and delver some body kicks, to secure a win on the judges scorecards.
Giga Chikadze is becoming a true contender in the featherweight division. If he get’s past Kattar in January, I expect him to be two to three fights away from a title shot.Who do you think has the edge here Giga or Kattar? Comment below!
