Santos Back From Injury
This will be Santos’s first fight back after losing by split decision to Jon Jones at UFC 239 in 2019. The light heavyweights battled for five brutal rounds, with the judges giving the edge to Jones. Many fans and writers disagreed, saying Santos done enough to become the new title holder. Since then Santos has taken some time off to recover from surgeries on both knees.
Teixeira vs Santos Prediction
In terms of offense Santos lands 5.01 on average compared to Teixeira at 3.46. Santos also has the edge on striking accuracy with 51% compared to 44%.
The consensus of fans are giving this fight a much closer prediction than the odds would suggest. Teixeira demolished Anthony Smith in his last bout, scoring a late TKO to win the fight. He is currently on a four-win fight streak and his last loss was to Corey Anderson by decision in 2018.
We see this fight playing out very aggressively on the feet. Expect Santos to come out with bombs and try to put Teixeira away early. Teixeira is durable though so he could try go for the takedown and unload some heavy ground and pound if successful.
Pick: Thiago Santos.
Future of The Light Heavyweight Division
